This study addresses the thermo‐diffusion and the diffusion‐thermo phenomena in a semi‐infinite absorbent channel whose walls are contracting/expanding, with heat source/sink effects. The governing partial differential equations with suitable boundary conditions are transformed to a system of dimensionless ordinary differential equations. An analytic solution of the problem has been found using a technique called homotopy analysis method (HAM). HAM gives consistently valid answers to the problem over an extensive variety of parameters and also provides better accuracy. To validate the analytical results, a comparison has been presented with a numerical solution calculated by using the parallel shooting method. The effects of dimensionless parameters, that is, deformation parameter, Reynolds number, Soret and Dufour numbers, and heat source/sink parameter on the expressions of velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles are analyzed graphically to understand the physics of the deformable channel. It has been noted that the velocity across the channel is higher for the expanding channel, as compared to that for the contracting channel. Also the Soret and Dufour number increases the temperature of the fluid, and decreases the concentration. The temperature profile has an increasing behavior in the case of heat source, and a decreasing behavior in the case of heat sink.  相似文献

Multicellular tumor spheroid models (MCTS) are often coined as 3D in vitro models that can mimic the microenvironment of tissues. MCTS have gained increasing interest in the nano‐biotechnology field as they can provide easily accessible information on the performance of nanoparticles without using animal models. Considering that many countries have put restrictions on animals testing, which will only tighten in the future as seen by the recent developments in the Netherlands, 3D models will become an even more valuable tool. Here, an overview on MCTS is provided, focusing on their use in cancer research as most nanoparticles are tested in MCTS for treatment of primary tumors. Thereafter, various types of nanoparticles—from self‐assembled block copolymers to inorganic nanoparticles, are discussed. A range of physicochemical parameters including the size, shape, surface chemistry, ligands attachment, stability, and stiffness are found to influence nanoparticles in MCTS. Some of these studies are complemented by animal studies confirming that lessons from MCTS can in part predict the behaviour in vivo. In summary, MCTS are suitable models to gain additional information on nanoparticles. While not being able to replace in vivo studies, they can bridge the gap between traditional 2D in vitro studies and in vivo models.  相似文献

A multiphase second-order moment turbulent model was developed including an improved closure Reynolds stress transport to describe effectively the anisotropic characteristics of bubble-liquid turbulent flow. The two-phase hydrodynamics in a bubble column were numerically simulated by an in-house code. The effect of the amount of jetting holes on bubble-liquid hydrodynamics in relationship with a cell culture was investigated. Firstly, the bubble energy production correlation was proposed to verify the higher cell damage rate near gas inlet regions. The larger amounts of jetting holes resulted in an increase of bubble stress, bubble kinetic energy, and energy dissipation, particularly bubble energy production at the near gas inlet, which boosted cell damage.  相似文献

This article introduces a new class of functional-coefficient predictive regression models, where the regressors consist of auto-regressors and latent factor regressors, and the coefficients vary with certain index variable. The unobservable factor regressors are estimated through imposing an approximate factor model on high dimensional exogenous variables and subsequently implementing the classical principal component analysis. With the estimated factor regressors, a local linear smoothing method is used to estimate the coefficient functions (with appropriate rotation) and obtain a one-step ahead nonlinear forecast of the response variable, and then a wild bootstrap procedure is introduced to construct the prediction interval. Under regularity conditions, the asymptotic properties of the proposed methods are derived, showing that the local linear estimator and the nonlinear forecast using the estimated factor regressors are asymptotically equivalent to those using the true latent factor regressors. The developed model and methodology are further generalized to the factor-augmented vector predictive regression with functional coefficients. Finally, some extensive simulation studies and an empirical application to forecast the UK inflation are given to examine the finite-sample performance of the proposed model and methodology.  相似文献

A class of discrete-time random processes arising in engineering and econometrics applications consists of a linear state-space model whose parameters are modulated by the state of a finite-state Markov chain. Typical filtering approaches are collapsing methods, which approximate filtered distributions by mixtures of Gaussians, each Gaussian corresponding to one possibility of the recent history of the Markov chain, and particle methods. This article presents an alternative approach to filtering these processes based on keeping track of the values of the underlying filtered density and its characteristic function on grids. We prove that it has favorable convergence properties under certain assumptions. On the other hand, as a grid method, it suffers from the curse of dimensionality, and so is only suitable for low-dimensional systems. We compare our method to collapsing filters and a particle filter with examples, and find that it can outperform them on 1- and 2-dimensional problems, but loses its speed advantage on 3-dimensional systems. Meanwhile, our method has a proven theoretical convergence rate that is probably not achieved by collapsing and particle methods.  相似文献

The ZrO2 alloying effect is widely used to optimize the thermo-mechanical properties of potential thermal barrier coatings. In this study, dense x mol% ZrO2-Gd3NbO7 with C2221 space group were manufactured via a solid-state reaction. The crystalline structure was determined through X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy, when the surface morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy. ZrO2-Gd3NbO7 had identical orthorhombic crystal structures, and there was no second phase. The crystalline structure of ZrO2-Gd3NbO7 shrunk with the increasing ZrO2 content as indicated by XRD and Raman results. The heat capacity and thermal diffusivity of ZrO2-Gd3NbO7 were 0.31–0.43 J g−1 K−1 (25–900 °C) and 0.25–0.70 mm2/s (25–900 °C), respectively. It was found that ZrO2-Gd3NbO7 had much lower thermal conductivity (1.21–1.82 W m−1 K−1, 25–900 °C) than YSZ (2.50–3.00 W m−1 K−1) and La2Zr2O7 (1.50–2.00 W m−1 K−1). The thermal expansion coefficients (TECs) were higher than 10.60 × 10−6 K−1 (1200 °C), which were better than that of YSZ (10.00 × 10−6 K−1) and La2Zr2O7 (9.00 × 10−6 K−1). The mechanical properties of Gd3NbO7 change little with the increasing ZrO2 content, Vickers hardness was about 10 GPa, and Young's modulus was about 190 GPa, which was lower than YSZ (240 GPa). Compared with previous work about alloying effects, much lower thermal conductivity was obtained. Due to the high melting point, high hardness, low Young's modulus, ultralow thermal conductivity and high TECs, it is believed that ZrO2-Gd3NbO7 is promising TBCs candidate.  相似文献

For fiber-reinforced plastics, the strain-rate dependent response is governed by the matrix behavior. In this work, the Goldberg model is considered for the epoxy matrix constitutive material model. Moreover, the strain-rate dependency is achieved by direct influence on the elastic modulus, the inelastic strain, and the material strain to failure. In addition, an anisotropic damage response is implemented and extended through a strain-rate dependent definition. Since the constitutive model relies on nonphysical parameters, a parameter study is further performed. Additional numerical investigations using a micro-mechanical model are performed. Tension and shear loading conditions are evaluated and the influence of different strain rates is explored. Furthermore, the implemented anisotropic damage model is compared and discussed against an isotropic damage model.  相似文献
